Is sedation dentistry safe?
Yes, sedation dentistry is very safe when administered by trained professionals. We monitor your vital signs throughout the procedure and use FDA-approved sedative medications. Our team has extensive training in sedation protocols and emergency management.
Will I be asleep during sedation?
With nitrous oxide, you remain awake and conscious but deeply relaxed. IV sedation can range from light sedation (twilight) where you're still conscious to moderate sedation where you may not remember much of the procedure. We discuss your preferences and choose the appropriate level.
Do I need a driver after sedation?
Yes, you cannot drive for at least 24 hours after any form of sedation. The effects can impair your judgment and reaction time even if you feel alert. Please arrange transportation before your appointment.
How much does sedation cost?
Sedation fees vary depending on the type and duration of sedation. Nitrous oxide is generally the most affordable option. We provide detailed cost estimates during consultation and work with insurance to maximize coverage when possible.
Can I eat or drink before sedation?
Yes, for nitrous oxide there are typically no restrictions. However, for IV sedation, we require fasting for a specific period (usually 6 hours) before your appointment. We'll provide detailed pre-appointment instructions based on the type of sedation you'll receive.
